Local Man Uses 'Common Sense' to Fix Pothole, Gets Ticket from Wisconsin Department of Transportation Two Hours Later

I can't believe it. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has literally got nothing better to do than harass people trying to help. My neighbor, Steve, filled a massive pothole on our street this morning with gravel he had in his garage. It took him ten minutes. The road was dangerous for kids on bikes. Two hours later, a DOT inspector shows up, takes pictures, and hands him a $250 citation for 'unauthorized road alteration.'

Where's the common sense? The state inspects his work but can't manage to actually send a crew out here in the last six months. We've been calling and making service requests since April. April! Now they're ticketing people for using their own money to make the street safe. I guess the better question is: what has the Wisconsin Department of Transportation actually done for this road lately besides hand out fines? Unbelievable.
