So some construction crew in Tucson was digging up dirt for a new parking lot and stumbled upon a bunch of prehistoric human bones. Of course, now archaeologists are swarming the site and shutting down the whole project for months. I’m all for respecting the dead, but seriously—this city is built on top of ancient burial grounds, and every time we try to pave a road or build a strip mall, we act shocked. Why can’t we just map where these bones are before breaking ground? Common sense says if you live in a desert that’s been occupied for thousands of years, you’re gonna hit skeletons. Our tax dollars are about to fund a nine-month delay for a routine dig. Bet those ancestors would’ve wanted us to just move them and carry on.
