NBC Confirms Cancellation of Multiple Shows for 2026 Season
NEW YORK, NY — National Broadcasting Company, known as NBC, has officially announced the cancellation of several television programs scheduled to conclude before the 2026 broadcast season. According to a press release issued Tuesday, the network has decided to discontinue production of series that have failed to meet expected viewership targets amid shifting audience demographics and streaming competition.
The cancellations affect a total of five shows, including the drama series "Midnight Line" and the comedy "City Lights," both of which premiered in 2024. Network executives cited declining ratings as the primary factor, with a 22 percent decrease in live viewership for these programs compared to the previous season. Additionally, the reality competition "Next Top Talent" and the sci-fi series "Quantum Drift" will not return, as NBC's parent company, Comcast, focuses on cost-cutting measures.
Spokesperson for NBC, Lisa Caruso, stated that the decision was difficult but necessary to align the lineup with changing viewer habits. The affected shows will air their final new episodes in December 2025. This development comes as NBC prioritizes digital platform synergy, with remaining original content to feature more serialized storytelling.
