Galveston Roller Coaster Stuck Mid-Ride Stranding Dozens for Over an Hour
GALVESTON, Texas — A mechanical malfunction on a popular roller coaster at a Galveston amusement park left over 30 passengers suspended 100 feet in the air for approximately 75 minutes on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 PM CT on the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, where the steel coaster stopped abruptly on its lift hill due to what officials described as a sensor system failure. Emergency crews from the Galveston Fire Department responded to the scene, using an aerial ladder truck to reach the stranded riders. Park personnel manually released safety harnesses to evacuate four cars of passengers in 20-minute intervals. No injuries were reported, and all guests were offered complimentary tickets and meal vouchers as compensation. The ride remains closed pending a full investigation by park engineers and state safety inspectors.
