My neighbor is a saint, not a celebrity. While our school board was busy sending out no fewer than 37 emails about what they can't do, this dad hopped in his old Ford F-150 and shuttled 12 freezing kids home. "Common sense" would've been having a backup bus or a phone tree. "Common sense" would've been the district not waiting three hours to call parents. Instead, they were probably drafting a memo. This isn't rocket science, it's basic parenting. Celeste Beard Johnson has nothing on this guy - he actually did something useful. If the administration had half the grit of this volunteer, our kids wouldn't be standing on a dark highway in December. I'm calling the superintendent's office tomorrow. We need real solutions, not excuses.
