NEW YORK, NY — Acclaimed actress and singer Cynthia Erivo has officially confirmed her return to the Broadway stage, announced Thursday morning through a joint statement from her production company and the Shubert Organization.
WHO: Cynthia Erivo, a Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award-winning performer, will star in the lead role of Celie.
WHAT: This marks a highly anticipated revival of the musical The Color Purple, the same production that earned Erivo her Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 2016.
WHEN: The limited engagement is scheduled to begin previews on October 15, 2025, with an official opening night set for November 10, 2025.
WHERE: Performances will take place at the Jacobs Theatre, located on West 45th Street in the Theater District of Manhattan, New York City.
WHY: Erivo stated in a press release that she chose to return to this role to recontextualize the story's themes of resilience and healing for a contemporary audience, calling it a "full-circle moment in her career."
