Cynthia Erivo Announces New Broadway-Bound Musical ‘Songs of the Weary’ for Fall 2025 Premiere

NEW YORK – Tony and Grammy Award-winning actress Cynthia Erivo has officially announced her return to the stage with a new Broadway-bound musical titled “Songs of the Weary,” set to premiere in Fall 2025. In a press conference held at the Shubert Theatre on Monday, Erivo detailed the production, which she co-wrote with playwright Jeremy O. Harris, exploring themes of resilience and identity through a contemporary blues-infused score. The announcement comes ahead of the 2025 Tony Awards season, positioning the project as a major theatrical event. “This piece has been three years in the making,” Erivo stated, confirming her role as lead producer. The production is currently seeking a theater for its initial eight-week limited run, with previews scheduled to begin in October. Erivo’s previous Broadway credits include “The Color Purple,” for which she won a Tony in 2016.
