TSA ANNOUNCES EXPEDITED SCREENING PROGRAM: ‘TSA GOLD+’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today officially launched a new premium security screening program, designated “TSA Gold+,” aimed at streamlining the passenger experience at select major airports.

According to a TSA statement, the program is distinct from the existing TSA PreCheck initiative. TSA Gold+ is designed for travelers who voluntarily consent to both an advanced identity verification process and a behavioral analysis interview conducted by specialized TSA officers.

The agency clarified that participation is not based on frequent flyer status or credit card ownership. Instead, qualification is determined by a proprietary algorithm that assesses the passenger’s travel history and voluntarily provided biometric data. What, then, distinguishes this program from standard expedited screening? Officials stated that Gold+ members will utilize dedicated physical infrastructure, including separate screening lanes with modified protocols allowing them to retain shoes, belts, and light outerwear, similar to PreCheck, but with the additional privilege of being able to pass through the metal detector with laptops and 3-1-1 compliant liquids inside their carry-on bags.

Where will this service be available? The TSA confirmed that TSA Gold+ is currently operating in a pilot phase at three airports: Denver International Airport (DEN), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).

When did the program begin? The pilot officially commenced this morning, with the first scheduled Gold+ flights departing from Atlanta at 6:42 AM local time.

Why was this program created? TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in a video statement, “The threat environment is constant, but the passenger experience need not be cumbersome. TSA Gold+ allows us to focus resources more effectively on known threats while rewarding travelers who choose to partner with us for a verifiable and predictable interaction.”
