TOKYO, Japan – Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially confirmed a substantial price increase for all tiers of its PlayStation Plus subscription service, effective immediately for new members and at the next renewal date for existing subscribers.

For example, the annual Essential plan has increased from approximately $59.99 to $79.99, while the Premium annual tier now costs $159.99, up from $119.99.
WHO: The change was announced by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s corporate communications division and will directly impact the global user base of PlayStation Plus, which currently exceeds 47 million active subscribers.
WHEN: The new pricing took effect immediately as of today. Existing subscribers will see the increased rates applied upon their next renewal date.
WHERE: The price adjustment is being implemented across all regional markets, including North America, Europe, and Asia.
WHY: Sony cited rising operational costs, increased investment in high-quality content, and the expansion of cloud streaming services as primary reasons for the price adjustment.
HOW: Subscribers will be notified via email and through the PlayStation Network console interface. Users are advised to review their current subscription status and renewal dates. Sony stated that no changes to the service’s features or library of games are being made at this time.
