AITA for calling the cops on my neighbor’s “art project” that turned out to be a live-fire AR-15 training course?
My neighbor (43M) has been setting up these “tactical drills” in his backyard for the past three weeks. He’s got fake walls, cardboard cutouts of “terrorists,” and a Bluetooth speaker blasting the Call of Duty killstreak sounds. I (29F) asked him to stop because my dog literally had a PTSD episode and ran through a glass door.
He said, “It’s just some legal stress relief, bro. You’re not my wife.”
Yesterday, he invited his buddies over for what he called “Operation El Niño.” They were running around yelling “CLEAR!” and then—boom, boom, boom—actual gunfire. Not blanks. Not paintball. Just straight up 5.56 rounds from an AR-15. He said it was a “live-fire simulation” and that he “had a backstop made of old mattresses and a bucket of sand.”
The cops showed up, swarmed the block, and he got arrested. The neighborhood Facebook group is calling me a “Karen” and saying I “ruined his vibe.”
TL;DR: I called the SWAT team on a grown man LARPing a mass casualty event in his own backyard during happy hour.
Verdict from the Reddit court: NTA, but your neighbor is definitely the main character in a future episode of To Catch a Predator meets Active Shooter Training 101.
