AITA for Thinking the San Diego "Active Shooter" Drill Was Just a Little *Too* Convincing?
AITA for thinking the San Diego “active shooter” drill was just a little too convincing?
TL;DR: Police held a “surprise” mass shooting drill at a public park. On a Saturday. With actors screaming and fake blood. Nobody told the actual public. Now half of Seaport Village is filing for emotional damages and the other half is laughing their asses off because one of the “victims” was a guy in a banana suit.
Yes, you read that right. The San Diego PD decided to run a “realistic” active shooter training scenario at a crowded waterfront. Locals thought a genuine apocalypse was happening. Karens were throwing themselves over their avocado toast. Then they realized the gunman was just a cop with a prop rifle, and the “dying” was being done by a guy in a fruit costume.
So, is the police department the asshole for the massive public panic? Or is the public the asshole for not recognizing that a mass shooting would probably have better lighting and less interpretive dance? Asking for a friend.
