🚨 COMMON SENSE ALERT 🚨
So I’m out walking my dog, Fido, on Maple Street this morning, and what do I see? A full-on, brand-new, traffic-calming “pare” (that’s a speed bump for those of you who forgot your English) installed right in front of the elementary school. But here’s the kicker, folks: It’s painted bright green, shaped like a giant clover, and has little fake flowers glued to it.
Now, I’m all for safety. But tell me why the town spent $8,000 on this decorative monstrosity, but can’t fix the pothole on Elm that’s been swallowing sedans since last March? My neighbor’s Prius bottomed out on it. He scraped his catalytic converter. A Prius. On a clover.
You can’t make this up. Where’s the common sense? A speed bump is a speed bump. You don’t need to landscape it. You don’t need to make it look like a reject from a garden show. You just need a flat, slightly raised lump of asphalt. But no, we had to have a pare-ty for the tax dollars.
And for the record, my dog is now terrified of clovers. He peed on it once and it splashed back. Common sense people. Use it.
