Just drove past the old oak trees on Maple Street by the elementary school. Not one, but FOUR mature trees are being felled this morning “for safety.” Safety?! Common sense says those trees have been standing for 50+ years, surviving storms, traffic, and my grandpa’s tractor. The only danger is the council wasting our tax money on new saplings that’ll die by August because nobody waters them.

I asked one of the workers—he said it’s because of “long-term planning.” Planning to turn our neighborhood into a concrete parking lot, more like. Meanwhile, kids walk to school in 90-degree heat with zero shade now. Don’t get me started on the bird nests that were up there. Must be nice to live in a glass tower downtown and decide what’s “best” for us.

Common sense: if it ain’t broke, don’t “pare” it down. ❌🌳
