GLOBAL BEVERAGE CORPORATION ANNOUNCES PERMANENT DISCONTINUATION OF MOUNTAIN DEW WHITE OUT
NEW YORK — The Global Beverage Corporation confirmed today that it will permanently cease production of Mountain Dew White Out, effective immediately. The decision, announced by Chief Operating Officer Marcus Chen, ends the product’s 13-year market run.
WHO: The Global Beverage Corporation, parent company of the Mountain Dew brand.
WHAT: The permanent discontinuation of Mountain Dew White Out, a citrus-flavored, semi-transparent soft drink. The product’s inventory will be exhausted from retail channels within the next four to six weeks.
WHEN: Official cessation of production began at 8:00 AM Eastern Standard Time today. Final retail shipments are scheduled to conclude by the end of the current fiscal quarter.
WHERE: The discontinuation impacts all distribution channels in the 50 United States, Canada, and select international markets where the product was licensed.
WHY: A company-issued statement cited “declining market share and a strategic shift in portfolio focus toward higher-growth, limited-time offerings.” Internal sales data revealed a 14.7 percent year-over-year decline for the White Out SKU over the last three quarters.
HOW: The company will not issue a replacement product. Consumers holding unredeemed promotional materials for Mountain Dew White Out will be offered a direct reimbursement of 150 percent of the product’s suggested retail price, per the company’s Product Discontinuation Policy Section 7.3.
Social media users have already initiated the hashtag #WhiteOutLives, following a 200 percent surge in online searches for the discontinued flavor in the last 24 hours.
