FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATELINE: BOISE, IDAHO – October 27, 2023
WHO: Mark Fuhrman, former Los Angeles Police Department detective and convicted perjurer, and the Idaho Supreme Court.
WHAT: The Idaho Supreme Court has formally disbarred Mark Fuhrman from the practice of law within the state.
WHERE: The ruling was issued by the Idaho Supreme Court in Boise, Idaho. Mr. Fuhrman, who was not present for the proceedings, holds an inactive law license with the Idaho State Bar.
WHEN: The decision was handed down on October 24, 2023, and the order was made public earlier today.
WHY: According to the court’s order, the disbarment action was initiated following an independent review of Mr. Fuhrman’s 1990 federal perjury conviction. The court determined that the conviction, which arose from his testimony regarding the use of a racial slur during the 1995 O.J. Simpson murder trial, constitutes a “serious crime” under Idaho Bar Commission rules. The conviction, originally for a felony in California, was found to be a direct and material violation of the professional conduct required of a licensed attorney. The court concluded that his continued licensure would “undermine public confidence in the integrity of the legal profession.” The disbarment is retroactive to the date of his interim suspension, which was ordered in October 2022.
