LOCAL RESIDENT ERUPTS OVER BILLIONAIRE’S PLAN TO ‘SAVE’ SMALL TOWN - ‘USE COMMON SENSE!’
A furious local resident has gone viral after posting a scathing takedown of tech mogul Marc Benioff in a tense community Facebook group debate.
The Salesforce billionaire recently proposed a “smart village” pilot program for a struggling rural town, offering free cloud software, high-speed internet, and a “digital mayor” AI assistant to streamline local government.
But one angry resident, Dave “Common Sense” Harrison, isn’t buying it.
“Benioff wants to turn our Main Street into a tech demo? Use common sense, people!” Harrison wrote. “We don’t need a ‘digital mayor’ who can’t fix a pothole or shovel a sidewalk. We need someone who knows the difference between a zoning ordinance and a software update!”
Harrison then laid out a now-viral list of “common sense demands”:
“1. Fix the sewer lines BEFORE you install 5G towers. 2. A ‘smart traffic light’ that doesn’t know when a tractor crosses the road is just an expensive stop sign. 3. And for heaven’s sake, stop calling our diner’s meatloaf recipe a ‘data set’!”
The post has racked up over 14,000 shares and thousands of comments, many echoing the “common sense” refrain. One user, a former local council member, added: “Benioff’s team spent an hour explaining ‘synergy’ while the volunteer fire department was still using a paper map from 1992. We don’t need a billionaire’s charity – we need someone who’ll actually show up to a town hall meeting.”
Benioff responded on LinkedIn, stating the pilot was a “test of empathy-first technology.” But Harrison isn’t backing down: “Empathy doesn’t fix a leaky roof, Marc. Common sense does.”
