LEGO BATMAN LEGACY OF THE DARK KNIGHT: NEW MULTIMEDIA FRANCHISE UNVEILED
WHO: The LEGO Group, in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, has officially announced a new, long-term multimedia initiative.
WHAT: Titled “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight,” this expansive project is described as a cross-platform narrative experience. It will encompass a full-length animated feature film, a multi-season streaming series on Max, and a new line of highly-detailed construction sets. According to an official press release, the project aims to explore the character’s entire fictional history, from his origin in Crime Alley to his most recent battles in Gotham City.
WHEN: The announcement was made earlier today from LEGO headquarters in Billund, Denmark. The first wave of construction sets is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of this year, with the animated film and streaming series premiering in the first quarter of the following year.
WHERE: The project will be developed globally, with animation production handled by LEGO’s in-house animation studio in London, while the construction sets will be designed at the Master Builder studios in Enfield, Connecticut, and Kladno, Czech Republic.
WHY: A LEGO spokesperson stated the initiative was conceived to “retell the most significant chapters of the Batman mythos in a way that is both accessible to new, younger fans and deeply respectful to the millions of adult collectors and DC enthusiasts.” Market analysts have identified the project as a strategic move to consolidate character-based storytelling across physical and digital platforms, aiming to capture a generation of fans raised on both streaming content and building toys.
