CBP ISSUES “MEMORIAL DAY TRAVEL WARNING” – LOCAL RESIDENT FIRES BACK: “USE SOME COMMON SENSE!”
A post in the Smith County Community Watch Facebook group is going viral after local resident Frankie O. let loose on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s official Memorial Day travel advisory.
“CBP is out here telling everyone to ‘plan ahead’ and ‘check wait times’ like we’re all brain-dead,” Frankie wrote. “News flash: If you’re crossing the border on a holiday weekend and you’re shocked there’s a line, you’re part of the problem. Common sense says stay home or pack a cooler and a book.”
Frankie’s rant, which has been shared over 1,200 times, continued: “They’re warning people not to bring ‘prohibited items.’ You mean like the 50 pounds of unmarked meat and produce people try to bring back every year? How many times do they have to say ‘no raw chicken in the trunk’ before it sticks?”
The post ends with a blunt recommendation: “Leave early, leave the attitude, and for the love of God, don’t try to bring back a bag of dirt from Mexico. CBP has dogs. They’re not stupid. We are.”
Commenters are divided, with some calling Frankie “the voice of reason” and others accusing him of “gatekeeping Memorial Day traditions.” One user fired back: “Not all of us live five minutes from the border, Frankie. Some of us are just trying to see our grandkids.”
Regardless of your stance, the post has sparked a heated debate about personal responsibility versus federal warnings. CBP has not issued a response to Frankie’s comments.
